On Bangabandhu’s 102 birthday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has paid homage to the father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his tomb in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi 32.

On Thursday (March 17) at 7 a.m., he paid homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu at number 32 in Dhanmondi. During this time, members of the armed forces gave a state salute.

The Prime Minister then paid homage at Bangabandhu’s tomb at Tungipara in Gopalganj at 11 pm.

Today is the 102nd birth anniversary of Bangabandhu. On this day in 1920, the undisputed leader of the Bengali nation was born at Tungipara in the Gopalganj district.

He joined active politics while studying at Islamia College in Kolkata. Bangabandhu led the language movement in jail and outside the jail. On February 21, 1952, when the language movement activists were killed, Bangabandhu was on hunger strike in jail.

In continuation of the language movement, Sheikh Mujib led all the major movements of Bengalis, including the general elections of 1970 and the Liberation War of 1971. Bangabandhu, through his dynamic leadership, organized the Bengali nation against the exploitation and oppression of the Pakistani rulers. In 1971, the movement in independent Bangladesh took place through the nine-month liberation war.

When Bangabandhu was moving ahead with the goal of building a golden Bangladesh by overcoming all obstacles, the defeated and anti-liberation war clique, along with most of the members of the family, killed him on August 15, 1975. On the occasion of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary, the government has declared from March 17, 2020, to March 26, 2021, as ‘Mujib Barsha. However, it has been extended till March 31 this year.

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, various social and cultural organizations including Bangladesh Awami League have taken up various programs.

Awami League has taken up a seven-day program at Tungipara in Gopalganj. In the morning, the national flag and party flag were hoisted at all the offices of the party.

Awami League leaders will also pay homage by laying a wreath at Bangabandhu’s tomb at Tungipara. Sheikh Hasina will be present at the meeting on behalf of the party at 3 pm.

Television channels and radio stations will broadcast special programs to mark the day. Meanwhile, the President and the Prime Minister have also given separate messages on the occasion of the day.

The theme of this year’s National Children’s Day is “Bangabandhu’s Birthday Pledge, Equal Rights for All Children”.
