Arrival was chosen to manufacture electric buses for the city of Anaheim, California, a commercial electric vehicle company that is rocking traditional car production lines at an AI-operated microfactory.
The· Federal Department of Transportation awarded Anaheim a $ 2 million grant In 2019, and Thursday, the city’s transportation network announced plans to partner with Arrival to reach its goal of operating California’s first all-electric bus by 2025.
The UK-based company said Anaheim, which operates transit services to Disneyland and other local attractions, will be the first customer of lightweight battery buses. Arrivals begin with five 40-foot buses, but did not respond to requests for more information on when the buses depart and when additional additions will be added to the fleet.
Buses to Anaheim will be built at the first US microfactory of the arrival in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The other Microfactory of Arrival is located in Charlotte, NC, but the startup aims to have 31 microfactory nationwide by the end of 2024.
The arrival partnership with the Anaheim Transportation Network also includes a workforce development program, according to a statement from the EV company. Local community colleges offering electrical and mechanical engineering programs can offer internships to qualified students to gain experience in zero-emission transportation.
“Arrival buses will change the face of public transport when they hit the road,” said Mike Ableson, CEO of the arriving vehicle. “The first order from a US transit operator is just the beginning.”
The arrival, recently unveiled by the SPAC merger, has already formed many notable partnerships. Last year, we signed a contract with UPS to start initial orders for 10,000 electric vehicles by 2024.
