Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2022, which is taking place on the premises of Bangla Academy and at the Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital, opens today.
On the 30th day of the Ekushey book fair 2022, a big number of people were seen purchasing their preferred books.
Sumona Kobir, a visitor from Savar, said she came to buy new books and purchased 13 books of various genres, including collections of poems, stories, essays, and novels.
Osman Gani, the publisher of Agamee and adviser to Bangladesh Pustak Prakashak O Bikreta Samiti, remarked that sales were satisfactory this year compared to the previous year.
‘This year, we brought 111 new books, largely on the liberation war, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s founding president, and a collection of essays.’ ‘This year’s reception to the book fair was better than the previous year,’ Osman Gani noted.
‘We are prepared to hold our conclusion ceremony on Thursday,’ stated Ekushey Book Fair 2022 Organising Committee member secretary Jalal Ahmed. The closing ceremony will begin at 5:00 p.m. on the Bangla Academy’s main stage.’
KM Khalid, the state minister for cultural affairs, will be the chief guest during the closing ceremony.
The welcoming speech will be given by Bangla Academy director general Mohammad Nurul Huda, while cultural affairs secretary Abul Monsur will attend the ceremony as a special guest.
Selina Hossain, the academy’s president, will preside over the closing ceremony.
Following the closing ceremony on the Bangla Academy grounds, publishers and fair organizers will gather on the Suhrawardy Udyan to commemorate Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth anniversary.
On Wednesday, a total of 77 new books arrived at the fair, bringing the overall number of new arrivals to 3,201.
Due to the Covid-19 crisis, the fair opened on February 15 this year.
The fair was supposed to end on February 28, but organizers decided to extend it until March 17 on February 27.
The book fair has given 534 publishing businesses and organizations 776 units and 35 pavilions to sell and show their books and publications.
Little publications were given a total of 127 slots this year.
They have given 102 organizations 142 units on the Bangla Academy grounds and 432 organizations 634 units on the Suhrawardy Udyan grounds.
On Wednesday, a debate titled “Shaheed Janani Jahanara Imam: a wonderful soul struggling until death” was held at the Bangla Academy’s main stage.
