Amazon has announced that alexa.com, its global website ranking system, and analysis tool, will be shutting down. Alexa Internet is a twenty-five-year-old company. Amazon has posted a statement on the alexa.com website announcing that alexa.com will be retired on May 1, 2022.
“Alexa Internet was founded twenty-five years ago. We’ve made the painful choice to retire Alexa.com on May 1, 2022, after two decades of helping you locate, reach, and convert your digital audience. Thank you for trusting us with your content research, competition analysis, keyword research, and other needs. We have enjoyed having you as customers. “Thank you,” the Alexa team writes in a note. Bleeping Computer was the first to notice the change.
Since December 8, 2021, Alexa.com has not been accepting new subscribers. Customers who have already purchased a subscription will have access to it until May 1, 2022. Existing clients will be able to use the service until May 1, 2022, according to the corporation. Customers who have already paid for the subscription will continue to be invoiced, however, the last billing date will be before April 1, 2022. However, they will be able to use Alexa.com until May 1, 2022.
Alexa Internet was created in April 1996 by Amazon’s subsidiary alexa.com. The website’s functionalities were comparable to those of Google Analytics. The website was used to track the website’s performance. It can also be used to keep track of competitors’ performance. Web traffic data, global rankings, and other information on over 30 million websites are also available on the site.
While Amazon has not stated why the website was shut down, traffic and marketing analytics firm Semrush has stated that the website’s own traffic has been steadily declining over time.
