Instagram has launched a new feature called ‘Video Selfie Verification System’ to help users identify bogus accounts.
However, this new function is ineffective because a toy may simply trick it. Instagram couldn’t detect the barbie doll as phony during scanning, according to a video that has gone viral.
Alexander Chaldkidis, a Youtuber, posted a video showing how he fooled Instagram’s video selfie verification mechanism by utilizing a Barbie doll.
To everyone’s surprise, he completed the process without any problems or hiccups.
Another film was made with a Ken doll, and this one, curiously enough, was also successful.
It’s worth noting that the Instagram verification algorithm was unable to determine gender.
This security feature was introduced to allow new users to authenticate their identity by taking a quick selfie video. The AI system should be able to determine whether or not a genuine human is engaged.
Surprisingly, Instagram has not been able to complete the task because the system is useless.
This isn’t the first time, however, that Instagram’s selfie verification mechanism has had issues. It was launched last year and then shut down owing to a slew of problems and complaints.
Instagram appears to require some additional time in order to make its AI system a complete success.
Instagram has been silent on the matter, and it will be interesting to see how it handles this embarrassing position.
However, it’s possible that Instagram will release updates to improve the system or remove it entirely until it improves.
In the past, phones had a similar problem with their facial recognition feature being ineffective.
