This Mexican has worked with opera singers, models, fashion designers, and characters like Jaime Camil, Salma Hayek, and Lele Pons for 30 years to find and develop this factor. Now, he has brought this fact to the public’s attention with “Uniqueness by Manuel Vera,” a podcast in which different characters talk about what it means to be unique. This is a podcast you can listen to at any time of the day or while you’re stuck in traffic.
Manuel Vera told GQ, “I want to send a positive message so that people who hear it will stick with something.” In each episode, Vera plays the role of an insider and talks about what he has learned from people like the journalist José Daz Ballart, the member of Reik, Julio, or Camil. All of them turn into inspiring talks about discipline, emotional maturity, and the search for all the things that make us unique and that we do or don’t have. “I say it over and over again in each chapter: we are all very different. It’s not that God has touched these actors or characters.”
He has shown this by putting together a group of characters that include content creators who are not yet 20 years old and someone like Daz-life Balart’s experiences. “The subtleties and colors come out more when you don’t keep a line and talk to different kinds of people,” he says about the broadcast.
Strangely, “Uniqueness by Manuel Vera” came about in a unique way after the promoter, businessman, and singer turned down offers to write a book about his life with other people. He says with a laugh, “I thought it was interesting, but it crossed the line of things I probably shouldn’t say.” He says, “I turned it around.” Yes, it was easier to give him a name because the “uniqueness” of each person he has worked with has been the same throughout his career. “I’ve used that word my whole life, and I’ve always tried to figure out what makes something different and build on that.”
The project keeps something very unique and interesting in its DNA: the stories it tells in each part have never been seen before. “When people sit down to listen to him, they will hear something from that artist that they haven’t heard before,” he says.
Another part of the appeal is that everyone wants to know what makes them different. “We always try to hide what makes us different so we can fit in with society,” he says. “That will keep us from being happy.” So, Vera came up with the idea of a podcast for people who need to find themselves and for those who are still growing up and need stories that show them they have more than “the talent or the desire” to do something. “I think of everyone who wants to feel motivated, who wants to be able to say, ‘This is enough.'”
And it’s because she’s lived for 30 years that Vera is sure she knows how important it is to know what makes each person unique. It happened when he thought back to when Jaime Camil dreamed about taking a project to the next level in Hollywood or when Lele Pons thought about getting into a field outside of the networks. “The more we accept who we are, the more we can set ourselves up to be emotionally and morally happier.” After this first season, did you find something new? “Reminding myself why I do this is what has brought me back. All of them make me want to dream, and the only way to do that is to be different.
