South Korea wants to be the best, and its good education system helps it do that without forcing people to learn. It is also one of the Asian countries that does the best job of putting educational strategies into place.
Most South Korean schools are private, and a lot of people apply to them. There isn’t much difference between private and public institutions, since the government is in charge of making sure everything is in order and following the rules. So, there’s not much differences in the education system in South Korea.
Boosting South Korean education
After the Japanese left South Korea in 1945, it was decided that a new educational system would be the main way to improve society. People would go from living in a poor culture to living in one of the most well-known and cultured places in the world.
By improving human capital, the number of people who couldn’t read or write dropped in a surprising way. This made people really care about education, which led to new ideas and plans.
Free education was pushed for and is still being pushed for today. All children and young people between the ages of 7 and 15 have the right to go to school. This takes 6 years of elementary school and 3 years of high school. To finish high school and get a diploma that will let them go to college or the workplace, they have to pass an exam at the end.
South Korean culture has been getting better and better over time, which has helped the country’s name. This is shown by the fact that most professionals who are sent abroad work for big companies.
Studies and classes of excellence
Koreans are known for holding themselves to very high standards in many social and cultural areas. Education gets a lot of attention because it is the first step to becoming a part of society.
The school curricula are part of the educational policies. These are changed every 5 years to keep up with the new way of teaching. So, the preparation that parents got will be different from what their children got. By improving the school environment before going to work, it will be easier to fit in with society.
Students spend about 10 hours a day in class during study time. There are six to seven hours of daytime classes, and during the break, dinner is made at the school.
Then, the students go to private classes that last between 4 and 5 hours. These classes are held at the hagwon, or academy, and their goal is to help students remember what they learned in the morning or to help them get better at something they do outside of school.
It may seem forced, but your culture has used this method for a long time and it works. South Korea’s education system shows that students who work hard and are motivated can do amazing things.
They also have the help of trained teachers, who are some of the most respected people in the country, just like in Japan or Finland. These people have a good income and have done a good job of getting ready.
Strategies for learning
This is where some differences between how the West and the East teach can be seen. South Korean education puts a lot of emphasis on learning things quickly and being able to remember them.
When you study for several hours a day, then review in private classes, and have little time for fun and relaxation, you develop a strict sense of discipline. Most of the time, this is a problem that many students in the country have to deal with every day.
But the country has taken a step to help young people have fun when they are not in school. This made it easier for teachers to use technology in their classes.
South Korea’s educational level changed because of the digital competitiveness of the 21st century. This led to a new way of using technology in the classroom. It gives every student access to information and also gives them a place to play educational games for fun.
This is how a little creativity and fun in class can fix the problem of too much memorization. Its use in the current education system shows that digital platforms can be used to help people learn.
